Eid al-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, marks the end of Ramadan—the holy month of fasting and prayer. Throughout Ramadan, Muslims observe daily fasts (Roza) from sunrise to sunset, breaking them with a traditional Iftar meal. This meal typically includes a variety of delicious foods, including sweet treats, soups, fresh fruits, and sugary beverages.

Recognising the high sugar intake during this period, Dr. Amina Hassan, a consultant dietitian and nutritionist, recently shared healthier alternatives for those looking to swap out sugary drinks for more nutritious options during Ramadan.

In a video shared on Instagram, Dr. Amina Hassan discussed the recipe, which can be considered to be a weight loss drink. She suggested that if a person wants to lose four to five kilos of weight, then this drink can be prepared at home for Iftar, replacing the sugary drinks.

According to Dr. Amina Hassan, cucumber slices, chia seeds, carrots, lemon, ginger and beetroot will be required to prepare it. The ingredients will have to be soaked in water for around two to three hours and then they can be consumed during the non-fasting hours, as per Dr. Amina.

It is also claimed that it would help in enhancing digestion and getting rid of bloating and constipation. She said if someone is dealing with low energy after Ifar, this water will help him/her feel fresh. Moreover, the drink is claimed to be insulin-resistant and favourable for patients dealing with PCOS, diabetes, fatty liver, high BP and cholesterol.

“It will eliminate toxins from the body and will also glow your skin. Because all these things are full of vitamin C and antioxidants. And it will boost your metabolism, which will speed up your weight loss process," Dr. Amina Hassan said in the video.
