Mitchell Santner To Tilak Varma: 5 Mumbai Indians Players To Watch Out For In IPL 2025

In the upcoming season of the world’s richest franchise cricket league, MI will open its campaign against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings and play its first home game against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31.

Ahead of the start of IPL 2025, here’s a look at five key players for Mumbai Indians:

Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah is arguably the best bowler of present times. The 31-year-old right-arm pacer from Ahmedabad, who has picked up 165 wickets in 133 IPL matches played so far for the franchise since making his debut in the 2013 season, will lead the pace attack once again and look to make life difficult for the opposition batters. In the 2025 season, Bumrah will have a chance to become the first bowler to take 200 wickets in the cash-rich league for one team.

Mitchell Santner: Since Harbhajan Singh parted ways with the franchise in 2017, MI missed the presence of a quality spinner, and so that’s why the management went after New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner in the IPL 2025 mega auction and signed him for his base price of Rs 2 crore. The Kiwi star, who was previously associated with Chennai Super Kings in the cash-rich league, has 120 wickets to his name in 109 T20Is played so far. He will be the key bowler for the Mumbai-based franchise in the middle overs.

Ryan Rickelton: MI signed South African wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton for Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 28-year-old left-handed top-order batter will open the innings with Rohit Sharma and keep the wickets as well. Rickelton has made a big name for himself in international cricket, and he would like to bring his A game in the IPL as well this year.

Tilak Varma: Tilak Varma was one of the top performers for Mumbai Indians in the last IPL cycle, and that’s why he was retained ahead of Ishan Kishan. The left-handed batter, who is known for his aggressive batting, has two centuries to his name in T20Is, and he would like to score at least a couple for the Mumbai Indians as well in the upcoming season.

Trent Boult: Former New Zealand pacer Trent Boult was the most expensive player signed by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The franchise paid Rs 12.50 crore to secure his services, and Boult, who is known for taking wickets with the new ball, will have high hopes to fulfil. Boult’s presence in the line-up along with Deepak Chahar, who was signed for Rs 9.25 crore, will give MI an option to operate Bumrah in the death overs.
